Boots are an essential part of any man or woman's wardrobe

Boots are an essential part of any man or woman's wardrobe. The huge range of styles and fashions means there is no excuse not to own at least a couple of pairs. There are knee high boots and there are ankle boots and various shapes and sizes in between.
Sheepskin lined boots are particularly in vogue at the moment and with an unusually cold winter they are ideally worn with any sort of clothing. Boots need not just be for the winter as there are some highly fashionable designs that look sensational all year around. Long slim and elegant boots on a woman with good legs can be very eye catching and this look is often used by marketing men when trying to promote manufactured goods as diverse as new cars to sporting events.
The diversity of designs over the age of boots has been staggering. If you take the definition of a boot as being a shoe which fits completely over the whole ankle and can be short or higher than the knee, then there is evidence of the boot existing in ancient Greek times.
Just take a look at one particular brand like ugg boots and you will see the diversity of design. Make sure they are genuine ugg boots as like any good quality product there may be fakes coming onto the market. The word 'boot' is one of those words which can have many different meanings. You 'boot' up your computer and you 'put the boot in'. Those are just two examples of boot other than the obvious one of footwear.
In the Wild West, many a cowboy ended up on boot hill. The origin of this euphemism for a graveyard was that a man, who died violently and most probably by a gun bullet, would still be wearing his boots. In any old church or cathedral in the United Kingdom, there are often clues to the way a man died from the position of his carved likeness upon his tomb. Throughout the time of the great crusades many knights killed in battle were returned to their home and honoured with spectacular tombs. If the knight is depicted with his sword in his hands and his boots on then he had been killed in battle. If his boots rest on top of a dog then this indicates he died peacefully at his home. There are countless other examples of methods used to describe the way a man died.
Sometimes, when an old soldier dies, his horse is led by a member of his regiment to his place of rest. In the stirrups on the horse, the old soldier's boots are reversed with the soles of the boots pointing upwards. This practice began appropriately enough with the funeral procession of The Duke of Wellington, a man who famously designed his own type of boot.

R.A. Dickey records 20th win

NEW YORK -- R.A. Dickey has the distinction of being the first player cut from major league camp by the New York Mets during spring training in 2010.

Now the knuckleballer is the first 20-game winner on a sub-.500 team since Roger Clemens with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1997 and a legitimate National League Cy Young Award contender.

More From ESPNNewYork.com
Nothing has come easy for Mets knuckleballer R.A. Dickey, so it was fitting that win No. 20 was no different, writes Ian O'Connor. Story

Pitching in the Mets' home finale at his own request, Dickey limited the Pittsburgh Pirates to three runs in 7 2/3 innings Thursday before departing with a three-run cushion. The Mets held on for a 6-5 win at Citi Field as Dickey improved to 20-6.

"It was as hard as it's ever been to not get emotional, that's for sure," Dickey said. "I mean, from the get-go, from the introductions to the last pitch."

Dickey, throwing his hard knuckler at about 78 mph, tied his career high with 13 strikeouts. The 37-year-old never had won more than 11 games in any previous season.

Dickey joined Tom Seaver (1969, '71, '72, '75), Jerry Koosman (1976), Dwight Gooden (1985), David Cone (1988) and Frank Viola (1990) as the only pitchers in franchise history to reach the 20-win milestone. He became the second in the majors to that mark this season, joining fellow Cy Young candidate Gio Gonzalez of the Washington Nationals.

Dickey also became the first knuckleballer to win 20 games since Houston's Joe Niekro in 1980, according to STATS LLC.

The crowd of 31,506 -- the Mets offered $10 tickets to boost attendance for the matinee -- gave Dickey large ovations when he walked to the bullpen to warm up, when he came back to the dugout, when he took the mound and each time he batted. When he came out after walking Travis Snider in the eighth, he tipped his cap to the excited fans, exchanged high-fives with teammates in the dugout and took a seat on the bench.

"I don't know if I've ever attached a number to it," Dickey said. "It's just much more, for me, if I could just harness the moment and suck the marrow out of every second, then I've done what I want to do and I can be satisfied."

Jon Rauch, pitching on his 34th birthday, followed Dickey and allowed Alex Presley's two-run homer in the ninth. Bobby Parnell retired Josh Harrison on a groundout and Jose Tabata on a flyout for his fifth save.

The Mets will finish with a losing record, but it has been a bountiful season for personal milestones with the club. Not only did Dickey have the ninth 20-win season in franchise history and the first since Viola, Johan Santana tossed the first no-hitter in Mets history on June 1 and David Wright became the franchise's career hits leader earlier this week.

"I want to get emotional, but it's hard because we've had the type of season that we've had," Dickey said. "A collaboration of individual accomplishments hopefully will equal a good season. So it's hard to really sink into it knowing the season could have went differently.

"But, at the same time, this moment I feel like transcends that in a way as far as the connection to the fans and how I feel with that whole thing and the support. I mean, to win 20 games is difficult and it's been a real grind a lot of times. It's like a big exhale."

The 49 Greatest Mets

Fifty years after the Mets' first home game (they lost), we give you ...
The 49 Greatest Mets Rank 'Em

Wright, who passed Ed Kranepool with his 1,419th career hit on Wednesday night, belted a three-run homer in the fifth inning Thursday, chasing Pirates starter Kevin Correia and staking the Mets to a 6-3 lead.

"We've had our struggles in the second half, but (Dickey) has been about as steady as you can be," Wright said. "To win 20 games, especially with the way offensively we've played a lot of the second half, that says a lot. We don't score much, but he makes it stick. To be able to give him some runs today when early on it didn't look like he had his best knuckleball meant a lot. It's the least that we could do for a guy who has picked us up a number of times."

As for Dickey's Cy Young candidacy, manager Terry Collins noted the right-hander had an extra hurdle in excelling this season because he plays for a losing team, as opposed to Gonzalez on the division-leading Nationals.

"No disrespect to Gio, but they're 25 games over .500," Collins said. "We're not."

Dickey has had an eventful year. He climbed Mount Kilimanjaro before the season to raise money for the Bombay Teen Challenge, which helps victims of sexual slavery in India. He wrote a memoir that details the sexual abuse he suffered at the hands of a babysitter and another teenager while a child. And he is the subject of a recently released documentary highlighting the knuckleball.

Dickey also became a first-time All-Star this season at the age of 37, after floundering early in his career as a conventional pitcher.

"Really, growing up, you just want to compete," Dickey said. "And then, once you have the weaponry to compete, you want to be really good. And then, when you're really good, you want to be supernaturally good. And I think, for me, there's been this steady kind of metamorphosis from just surviving to being a craftsman. And then, ultimately, the hope is to be an artist with what you do. This year is kind of representative of that for me."

Cisco CEO: Next U.S. president must take page from Clinton's book

(Reuters) - Cisco Systems Inc CEO John Chambers, a supporter of Mitt Romney, says the country's next head of state should take his cues from former President Bill Clinton who was able to work effectively with businesses to generate jobs and create budget surpluses.

"There's a lot to learn from President Clinton. It kills me as a strong Republican saying it, but he was the most effective president during my lifetime," Chambers told Reuters in an interview on Tuesday.

"And when business got out of line, he smacked them," Chambers said.

Although President Barack Obama was the darling of the technology world during his campaign in 2008, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, a former private equity executive, has made inroads in Silicon Valley.

Some technology industry leaders view Obama as anti-business because of uncertainty blamed on the Dodd-Frank financial regulation reform and healthcare overhaul.

"The business community is very comfortable with Romney," Chambers said, but added that no matter who wins the election in November, serious challenges lie ahead.

He added that Cisco customers in the U.S. were reluctant to invest because of the fiscal cliff despite corporate America being in "remarkably good shape".

Fiscal cliff refers to the impact of around $500 billion in expiring tax cuts and automatic spending reductions set for 2013 as a result of successive failures by Congress to agree on an orderly alternative method of reducing budget deficits.

"If we don't deal with the fiscal cliff and don't deal with predictability on taxes for both citizens and business, with the rest of the world in a struggling state, this is really bad for us," he added.

TEN CANDIDATES FOR CEO

On his own future at Cisco, where he has been in charge for almost 18 years, Chambers repeated he would not be in that role in two to four years and that the company had 10 people who were potential successors.

"We have always had a hit-by-the-bus scenario -- that's Gary Moore for me," Chambers added, speaking of Cisco's chief operating officer.

Asked if he would consider accepting a political appointment himself, Chambers said he had been asked by previous administrations but turned them down.

"I don't enjoy politics," he said. "I like to get things done and I like Republicans and Democrats, and that doesn't always work well."

Cisco's bread and butter business are routers and switches that move data traffic but the company is expanding into other areas such as network security, video communication and data centers in an effort to ensure future growth.

Its customers are mainly businesses and governments, giving it a good view of corporate and public sector budgets and corporate spending.

Chambers said Europe would remain challenging, and said "if China slows down we all have big problems but slowing down to them might mean six to seven percent growth".

He also cautioned that emerging countries would likely not be as strong as they were during the last economic turnaround

"Good news and bad news, the U.S. has to pull us out of this economic slowdown. I think more and more people are coming to that consensus," Chambers said.

Cisco itself is more likely to look for growth outside the United States however, Chambers said.

"We will see growth in the U.S. and we will selectively acquire in the U.S. but we prefer to use our global opportunity."

Cisco this year acquired UK-based TV software developer NDS for $5 billion, its biggest deal since its $3.3 billion purchase of Norwegian conferencing company Tandberg in 2009.

Asked about potential acquisitions in data storage, Chambers said it was not a high priority as Cisco intended to keep its partnership with leading data storage company EMC even if the two were not as close as they used to be due to plans by EMC unit VMware to buy network technology start-up Nicira.

"EMC will be my best partner but not as strong as before because of the Nicira acquisition where we are going to compete in terms of direction."

Chambers admitted that it may be too late for Cisco to enter the data storage segment on its own.

"Storage is an evolution and I think we are much better off partnering with leaders like EMC and Netapp than doing it all ourselves and I think that market has probably moved in terms of opportunity."

Matchbox Cars - UGG Boots Sale

I used to absolutely LOVE Matchbox cars as a kid.For me - along with all the other fantastic toys that so defined my sheer childhood pleasure of the 1970's - these wonderful mini cars that came in all sorts of cool designs and colours were just an absolute joy to collect. I have fond memories of sitting on the concrete verandah of the flat I lived in as a kid, racing all my beloved Matchbox cars up and down the sloping path.My particular favourite Matchbox car was the Rat Rod Dragster, which was painted in a lovely shade of green and which always seemed to be just that little bit faster than all the others. Well, after all, it was one of the Matchbox "Superfast" series! And despite its relative slowness speed wise, I did have a soft spot for red London bus too. I just could not fault these fantastic cars at all, as I just adored everything about them. I used to get a real buzz out of going down to the local toy shop and browsing through all those wonderfully coloured match boxes containing all those fantastic miniature motors, wondering which one should I add next to my collection. I must have had 'em all.In addition to releasing the cars singularly, Matchbox also produced two huge games: Matchbox Switch A Track and Matchbox Motorway. I had Matchbox Switch A UGG Boots Sale Track, but for some reason I can't quite remember, I never actually got round to purchasing Matchbox Motorway. Maybe it was because I could never really master getting the set up right in the first game, where you had to fiddle around inserting UGG Adirondack Tall Boots tiny plastic pegs into the bottom of the cars to make them go round the track, Scalextric style. Being a child of very short patience when it came to assembling such a complicated game, I gave up in the end! Still, having said that, somehow the Matchbox boxed game, for me, didn't seem to have quite the same kind of magic as the individually sold cars did. But that's just my opinion.I know that many people still collect these old Matchbox cars, and indeed there are numerous sites on the internet - including Matchbox collectors' clubs, Matchbox car valuation guides etc. - which cater splendidly for the needs of the Matchbox buff. eBay, of course, also regularly has dealers selling their old stock of Matchbox cars. And don't forget car boot sales too, where I'll bet many a little gem of a Matchbox car - just like UGG Boots Cheap a rare old book - has turned up!

Boot Camp Marketing Strategies To Boost Your Income - UGG Boots Sale

This is the second in my 3-part series of amazingly useful boot camp marketing tips. Read on and good luck!#11 Give Your Workouts a ThemeWe're not talking about the music, but some motivational approach like; "Today the theme is commitment." It will help motivate your campers throughout UGG Retro Cargo Boots the week.#12 Know when to QuitIf you come across a workout that sounds like a great idea, but doesn't work out, pass by it. There's simply no sense in doing something when you already know it doesn't work.#13 No One Left BehindNo one should be standing around waiting while others finish. It ends up making everyone uncomfortable.#14 The UGG Roslynn Boots "Go-2" ExercisesOne of the most important parts to your routine is not ever looking like you're struggling to find the next thing to do. Your routines should like you already had them planned out UGG Adirondack Tall Boots even if you didn't.In any case, you'll have these handy "go-2" drills to turn to. They will save you time and time again.#15 Don't Take Correcting From Your ClientsI'm serious! If someone tries to correct your counting just say; "I'm only counting the perfect ones." It shuts them up every single time!#16 Burn Out the Bigger GuysIf you have really strong guys in your class, but you're using light weights, just burn 'em out first. A good example is making them do 40 pushups before doing a light dumbbell press. Then again you could have them walk 60 yards at a 90 degree angle holding dumbbells before doing some curls. Once you make them hurt before each exercise they'll respect you and feel like they're getting their money's worth.#17 Have a Good Memory on NamesAh yes, one of the key boot camp marketing strategies is building that deep connection with everyone. If you're not good with names, the first time you meet them come up with a rhyme like Trim Kim. It definitely helps.#18 In-Class TestimonialsAsk one of your clients what kind of results they are seeing. Say something like; "Debbie, How much weight have you lost?" Maybe she says she's lost 12 pounds and it has been around a month. "Awesome job," you say. "Hey everyone, I just want to say one thing real quick. Debbie already dropped 11 pounds this month. Great job, Debbie."This will pump up your client like you wouldn't believe, and gives proof to everyone else in the boot camp.#19 Concrete Time and NumbersIf you give your clients a certain amount of time and number of reps, it makes them work a lot harder.#20 Don't Have Boot Camps with Beginning and End DatesTaking this route eliminates all the people who want to join in between. It's possible that someone can't make it until the fourth class. You could lose a ton of income this way. So just have open-ended dates. You also don't want that 2-week break after a session ends. There will be a lot of individuals who feel rested and won't come back, plus you have to deal with sign-ups all over again. In the end just getting out of the routine makes it much harder.Just offer everyone auto-debit continuity programs. Then again, if you need a break yourself from all of these boot camp marketing strategies, have other trainers ready to teach your camps.

European Team Shy on Road Experience for Ryder Cup

Imagine what it will sound like when they make a putt.

The first official day of practice at the Ryder Cup served up a reminder that while Europe has only one rookie on its team — Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium — it has plenty of others who only know what it's like to play before the home crowd.

"We talked a lot about it and there's no doubt, playing at home is a big advantage," Peter Hanson of Sweden said. "We saw it last time in Wales, and we have seen it over here in the past. So I think it's just something we have to deal with, and we have to be stronger this time than we were the last time when we won by one point. So if we are going to get that cup back overseas, we know we have to perform very well."

Home advantage is said to be worth one point, the very margin that decided the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor the last time out.

Hanson joins Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer and Francesco Molinari as Europeans who played their first Ryder Cup before a home crowd. Perhaps they can get some advice from Graeme McDowell, who made his debut in Kentucky four years ago.

"There's no doubt, there's a world of different between playing in front of your home fans and playing in front of the U.S. fans," said McDowell, who lost his opening match at Valhalla with Padraig Harrington. "Putts that drop in front of your home fans was like a bomb going off, and putts that go in this weekend will be like someone's got a silencer on. It's kind of a muted applause."

What stuck out for McDowell was the par-3 14th hole at Valhalla, which had a huge hill on both sides creating an amphitheater filled with fans, mostly dressed in some variety of red, white and blue. Whenever the home team won the hole, the cheers resounded across the course.

McDowell wonders if the par-3 17th will be similar.

"Our goal this week will be trying to get as many of that muted applause as we can, holing our own putts," he said. "There's something interesting about missing a putt and having the cheers go up. That's something we are not used to as golfers. But I think it's something you've got to accept this week, and I'm looking forward to it.

"The days of hostility, I think, are gone," he said. "We'll see. ... Should be a lot of fun."

Vahalla first showed off a high-charged gallery in the 2000 PGA Championship, the memorable duel between Tiger Woods and Bob May that Woods won in a playoff for his third straight major. The Ryder Cup brought the same kind of energy.

But this is Chicago, one of the best sporting cities in the world, and certainly on a grander scale than Louisville.

"I have a feeling that Chicago might be even more boisterous," Justin Rose said.

Rose also was a Ryder Cup rookie in America, playing on that European team four years ago and succeeding, at least as an individual. He went 3-1 that week, beating Phil Mickelson in a singles match to keep alive hopes.

Ultimately, the United States delivered a win for the home crowd. And while Europe has dominated the Ryder Cup by winning six of the last eight times, the Americans have lost only twice at home since then — at Oak Hill in 1995 and Oakland Hills in 2004.

"Having played more and more golf over here, I feel more ready for this Ryder Cup than I did the last Ryder Cup," Rose said.

The last time Chicago saw golf at the highest level was last year in the BMW Championship at Cog Hill, which Rose won by two shots. So he has that going for him.

"But I don't think you can sort of ever know exactly what to expect with a Ryder Cup environment," Rose said. "It happens so rarely that we get to play in this environment that you just have to roll with it, I guess, and feed off it and be resilient out there, as well, because there's going to be a lot of things that happen on the golf course that ... just aren't normal to you."

It's not unusual for the Ryder Cup, though.

This is what the Americans went through in Wales, Ireland, England and Spain. Now it's Europe's turn to either tune out the gallery or find a way to silence it.

"It will be obviously in our favor, just like it is when we go over to Europe," Tiger Woods said. "But hey, it's part of the deal."

BBC Touch TypingTouch typing

?BBC Touch TypingTouch typing is an important skill that our kids need to master it in view of the frequent use of computer keyboards nowadays. Once you get the hang of touch typing, you will find that your fingers are literally flying across the keyboard and you will marvel at how the words seem to flow out UGG Classic Tall Boots onto your computer screen. On any keyboard, you will notice that the F and J keys have slight bumps on them. The newer keyboards might have the same keys raised up slightly higher than the other keys. These keys belong to the home row - otherwise known as the row in the middle - and it is this method which helps users remember and recognise the positioning of all the other letters on the keyboard. While you and I might find it difficult to get into the touch typing craze, your children have the advantage of learning it from a young age due to interactive programs like the BBC Dance Mat Typing. It is almost like being in a virtual classroom because there will be songs and even prompts emitted by your computer if your child has accidentally pressed on the wrong key. There is also support by the virtual characters in the program which can be seen at the end of each lesson. If you are keen to pick up touch typing, you could UGG Bailey Button Boots also give it a go. The program is designed with different grades and levels in mind so that even adults can try out the different activities and lessons. Google competition probe will be done by year end: trade agency

(Reuters) - The Federal Trade Commission is moving expeditiously to decide if Google used its search clout to harm competitors and expects to complete its investigation by the end of the year, FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz said on Wednesday.

In a speech at Georgetown University's law school, Leibowitz said the agency was weighing evidence to decide if Google, the world's largest search engine, manipulated its search results to steer users to its new businesses, like travel search, which could be in violation of the law. Leibowitz later said that he expected a decision by the end of the year.

Google rivals specializing in travel, shopping and entertainment have accused Google of steering Internet users away from their websites to Google products that provide similar services. Google has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

"We are happy to explain our business to regulators and answer any questions they may have," Google spokesman Adam Kovacevich said in an emailed statement.

European regulators are conducting a similar antitrust probe.

Furyk takes charge at Tour Championship

(Reuters) - Veteran Jim Furyk, hunting his first PGA Tour victory in two years, took advantage of a sizzling start to grab a one-shot lead in Friday's second round of the elite Tour Championship.

While tournament favorite Rory McIlroy carded a two-under-par 68 to stay on track for FedExCup playoff honors and the mind-boggling bonus of $10 million, Furyk birdied seven of the first 10 holes on the way to a best-of-the week 64.

On a steamy day at East Lake Golf Club, American Furyk scorched the front nine in six-under 29 with a stunning display of pinpoint approach shots before finding the going much tougher after the turn.

He offset birdies at the 10th, 15th and 17th with bogeys at the 13th, 16th and par-three last to post a seven-under total of 133 in the PGA Tour's fourth and final playoff event.

"To be able to write 'three' on your card nine times in the first 11 holes was a lot of fun," a smiling Furyk, 42, told reporters.

"I struggled to kind of keep that momentum going the last six holes, but I feel like I played a real solid round of golf. My iron game was as good as it's been all year on the front nine.

"I've got myself in good position for the weekend, and I'm a lot closer to the top of the (FedExCup) leaderboard than I was starting on Thursday. I'm in good spirits."

Britain's Justin Rose, co-leader overnight with twice winner Tiger Woods in the elite 30-man field after opening with a 66, was alone in second place after sinking a five-foot birdie putt at the last for a 68.

Masters champion Bubba Watson birdied two of the last three holes for a 66 to finish at five-under, level with fellow American Bo Van Pelt (68) and one ahead of Dustin Johnson (67) and Matt Kuchar (69), also of the United States.

FIFTH VICTORY

Northern Irishman McIlroy, who is seeking a fifth PGA Tour victory this year, and his fourth in just five starts, was a further stroke back at three-under while Woods battled to a 73 for a one-under total.

"I didn't play very good today," Woods said after recording his worst score at East Lake since he opened 75-76 at the 1998 Tour Championship. "Didn't hit it very good, and definitely didn't putt well, so it was a struggle all day.

"But I'm still right there. This is a golf course that is playing tough but some of the pins are pretty accessible. You've got to get the ball on the fairway."

Furyk has not triumphed on the PGA Tour since he clinched the Tour Championship and FedExCup honors in 2010 and to complete the 'double' this week he needs a lot to go his way.

Among several requirements, FedExCup points leader McIlroy would have to finish 12th or worse and second-ranked Woods fifth or worse.

Any of the top five players in the standings would secure the playoff title by winning the Tour Championship on Sunday - and that quintet comprises McIlroy and Americans Woods, Nick Watney, Phil Mickelson and Brandt Snedeker.

However, McIlroy remained in overall control of FedExCup honors after eagling the par-five 15th on the way to a 68 that also included a birdie and a bogey.

"I'm only four shots back, so I've still got a good chance going into the weekend," the 23-year-old said. "First and foremost, I just have to try to think of my standing in this golf tournament, not really think about anything else.

"If it comes down to it on Sunday where I need to really know what I have to do for the last few holes, then if I have a decision to make between protecting my lead in the FedExCup or trying to win the golf tournament, I think I know what I'm going to choose.

"But we just have to play until we reach that point. At the minute, I'm just concentrating on trying to play as well as I can."

Unlikely Journey Takes Tour Rookie to Playoffs

ATLANTA — At the turn of the Tour Championship’s first round Thursday, John Huh was even par, seemingly as relaxed as if he were playing with the Cal State Northridge Matadors.

Wait. A problem with Huh’s high school transcript foiled his enrollment, and he never attended college, unlike nearly all the PGA Tour players who attended high school in the United States.

Through his first nine holes, Huh had tamed the East Lake Golf Club course as if it were a stop on the Web.com Tour, the standard steppingstone to the PGA circuit.

Hold on. Huh never played on that level, either.

Actually, his journey to golf’s big leagues was unusually roundabout, eventually taking him to the Korean Golf Tour in his parents’ homeland.

So, in this election season, Huh could have been voted Least Likely to Be Here.

He is the lone rookie in the field — and, at 22, the youngest ever at the finale of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

On the back nine, Huh played like the young rookie he is. He went four-over par to shoot a 74, a higher score than everyone not named Nick Watney. Huh was eight strokes off the lead.

“I felt like I had fun, except for the score,” Huh said. “I felt comfortable being on the tour’s biggest stage. I didn’t feel any pressure at all.”

Huh would not be the first young adult in any profession who tried to put up a brave front. His caddie, Zeke Salas, said pressure has weighed down the golfer this week.

“John rides on emotions,” said Salas, who is also a club pro. “John can be kind of hard on himself. Sometimes I think he kicks himself too much.”

After a bogey on No. 5, Huh’s succeeding tee shot found water, leading to a double bogey. He navigated the next half-dozen holes in two under, but Salas wondered if Huh ever regained his equilibrium.

“He started relaxed but got rattled a little bit,” Salas said.

Huh had another double bogey on the 17th, when a sand shot failed to escape a greenside trap and nearly rolled back to the point of contact.

Still, setbacks on the course probably seem minor in the context of Huh’s story. After high school in Los Angeles, he went to South Korea, his childhood home for 12 years, to work on his game. At that point, no former teammate, coach or instructor envisioned him on the practice range someday alongside Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Perhaps they failed to appreciate Huh’s off-the-charts work ethic.

“He eats, sleeps and breathes golf,” said his agent, Mike Creasy. Huh usually dozes off and awakens to the Golf Channel on his hotel room TV.

At some point, Huh, a single teetotaler, might feel an urge to broaden his existence, which leaves the world of golf only for occasional forays into the Angry Birds app or a video game. But Creasy is not encouraging a change.

“Whatever he is doing right now,” he said, “we’d like him to keep the same mind-set.”

Salas, who roomed with Huh for much of the season, said he tries to help the golfer find a low score, not inner peace. “John is kind of his own man,” he said.

Huh insists that his goal entering each tournament is playing on the weekend — golfing vernacular for making the cut.

That seems hardly ambitious for a player with one win, seven other top-25 finishes and nearly $2.5 million in earnings. He is also the owner of a five-bedroom home and a luxury sport utility vehicle that puts his freshly acquired driver’s license to use.

And he may have ambitions he does not readily share.

On Monday, Huh showed his caddie the implausible scenarios by which he could conclude an already memorable season with a FedExCup title.

“He’s definitely looking at winning,” Salas said.

While it seems highly unlikely, his modest, oft-stated aim will be easy to attain. Only injury, illness or disqualification stands in the way of Huh playing on Saturday and Sunday. There is no cut.

However, thanks to Cappie Pondexter, Nicole Powell and some stifling defense, the Liberty remain in control of their future.

Pondexter had 30 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, and 11 rebounds as the Liberty rallied to beat the Mystics 75-68.

“Defense is our key,” Liberty coach John Whisenant said. “And Cappie. She’s been awesome. She’s our MVP and the most important player to her team of anybody in the league.”

Powell scored 10 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter as well and Essence Carson added 15 points as New York (14-17) won its third straight.

The Liberty retained a one game lead over Chicago for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Sky beat Phoenix 86-55.

Jasmine Thomas scored 16 points (on 7-of-11 shooting) and Monique Currie had 12 to lead the Washington (5-27), which has lost 11 straight.

“I think we played a tough game. We fought through until the end,” Currie said. “They executed better than we did. They made some tough shots, some big shots.”

After Washington scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to take a 56-49 lead, Pondexter scored the first six of an 8-0 run by the Liberty. The Mystics pushed the lead to 63-58 with 4:36 left and New York called timeout.

“When it looked like they could take over the game with about four minutes left, we had a time out, talked about it, and regrouped,” Pondexter said.

Powell’s 3-pointer tied the score at 63 with 2:50 left and her short jumper gave the Liberty a 67-65 lead with 1:34 to play.

“Nicole made some huge shots down the stretch,” Pondexter said.

After a miss by Currie, Kara Braxton scored on a layup off a nice pass from Pondexter to make it 69-65 with 48 seconds left.

“I think we stepped up our defensive intensity when it mattered most,” Pondexter said.

Matee Ajavon missed a short jumper and Pondexter hit two three throws. Thomas’s 3-pointer made it 71-68 with 19 seconds to go, but the Mystics got no closer.

“Coming into the stretch I don’t know if it’s a loss of focus, or what it is, but we have to figure it out,” said Thomas.

The Liberty outrebounded the Mystics 13-4 in the fourth quarter.

“We only gave them one shot so we were blocking out well,” Whisenant said. “Nicole Powell got a couple of rebound putbacks that were critical when the basket was shrinking up on us a little bit.”

The Mystics’ Ashley Robinson finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Washington outscored New York 19-12 in the third quarter and built a five-point lead as the Liberty hit just 5-of-22 field goals.

Washington played without leading scorer Crystal Langhorne (14.7 ppg), who left Friday’s loss to Atlanta with a left foot sprain, and Noelle Quinn (6.5 ppg), out with an injured right shoulder.
